This book is very much so for beginners who know nothing about reading music. If you no nothing, or next to nothing, this is a great book, with activities that will slowly teach you. I felt like the activities were very great in reviewing/reinforcing the information that you were learning. I used this in conjunction with a class and this was a perfect supplement, especially when I missed class.
